Student Finance England: check your 2026/27 application route and deadline

Still arranging undergraduate funding for a course that started in 2026? Check your eligibility, the correct application route and the deadline for your course. Where you normally live matters: studying in England alone does not mean Student Finance England is the right provider.

Undergraduate applicants using Student Finance England for courses starting before 1 January 2027, and people helping them apply.

What to do

  1. Start with the official eligibility page. Check your course, institution, previous study and nationality or residency position before assuming you qualify.
  2. Check which provider covers you based on where you are from or normally live. The application guide links to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland services.
  3. Find the deadline using your course start date. The timing guide allows applications up to nine months after the first day of the academic year; you do not need a confirmed place to apply.
  4. Use the application method for your entitlement. The guide directs full-support applicants online and tuition-fee-only applicants to postal forms.
  5. Prepare identity evidence and household income details where requested. If income evidence is needed, your parent or partner may also need to provide information.

Before you act

  • Courses starting on or after 1 January 2027 have a different application route: follow the link in the official timing guide rather than this checklist.
  • A late application may initially receive minimum funding while household income is checked. Do not assume all living costs will be covered or payments will arrive immediately.
